inspiration: daydream believer...

[caption id="attachment_260" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Purchase this image ("looking for love") here."][/caption] Close your eyes. What do you see? My daydreams are filled with foreign places-- real and imagined-- hazy sunsets, sheer curtains caught in a breeze, twinkling lights and mossy oaks... The fairies mingle freely with children who dance and sing around a ribboned May pole... unicorns run wild with stallions down a blinding beach... Ahhhh... The W.D. Wolf daydream line is light, soft and subtly sweet. Fine cotton, bits of lace, chiffon and fabric ribbons evoke a magical feeling your wee ones can carry with them. How do you like the labels created for the daydream line? And what about the images below? Eye Poetry Photography has so many amazing pictures I couldn't decide which to post. 8x10's are $30. I'd love a series framed in a row.

inspiration: picnic

Oh, how I love a picnic! And few things are as American as a casual meal in the great outdoors. The W.D. Wolf picnic line was inspired by beachside BBQs, fireflies in a jar, gingham tablecloths, embroidered blankets and American flags... We've taken your very favorite childhood memories and turned them into clothes- traditional ideas updated for modern times with subtle embroidery and timeless fabrics. Last year, Eat Drink Chic created this printable picnic invitation (left) that screams spring and summer to me. Head over there, print it out and invite your loved ones to eat and play with you! A picnic doesn't require a special holiday or a lot of planning- so get out there and start making new memories with your little ones. What do you think of our labels? These were specifically made for W.D. Wolf picnic & will help differentiate the line from the daydream collection...  Samples are in production, so pictures are coming soon... And while you're dreaming of picnics, check out this suitcase transformation via funkytime... And this amazing picnic tote we discovered in House Beautiful April 2012 (and then re-discovered here).

And the winner is...

Well, before we get to that... Here is a little peek at what the winner will win! There will be 2 color options from which to choose- each as summery as a picnic in the park. Which do you like better? Now, a note about how we picked a winner (so you guys can rest assured it's on the up & up). We used a facebook app called Easy Promos that kept track of each entry. It also recorded the number of friends each entrant "invited" and who "shared" on their wall. The generated information was exported into an Excel file where entrants were organized into a neat, numbered list. Using random.org we entered the total number of entrants and "rolled the dice" so to speak. Out popped a random number which corresponds with one of our promo entrants! And the lucky number is: 13!!! So who, is the lucky number 13?? Tammy Priddy! Congrats!!! You will be the recipient of our very first romper (to ship out in early April). Now, for the twist (every exciting contest has a twist!)... We've chosen ANOTHER winner! As a very special thank you to the fan who invited the most friends to participate, we are awarding a second romper... And the winner is?? Courtney Hiern! Thanks, Courtney for being a super fan! Your playsuit will ship out with the rest of our pre-orders, so expect delivery sometime in May. Thank you to everyone who participated. It was fun, but it was just the beginning. Very soon we'll be launching an even bigger, even better giveaway... We're trying to spread the word about W.D. Wolf, so help us by inviting your friends... Stay tuned for our upcoming promotion- how about a GIVEAWAY EACH DAY for an entire month? How does that sound?

life in the pack: diy head dress

At our house, there’s no shortage of crowns. We’re drowning in plastic princess crowns, beaded fabric crowns and even glue & paper crowns… So when, for the second time, I found Abe wearing a pink Cinderella tiara (while claiming to be “the king”), I knew the time had arrived for some “boy crowns”. In keeping with the outdoor/summer camp “theme” of their room, I decided to make some Native American inspired headdresses. They were simple and the boys love them! [caption id="attachment_231" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Apparently, the girls like them, too!"][/caption] What you’ll need: -Felt Fashion black headband (found at Hobby Lobby) -Aleene’s No-Sew Fabric Glue (or similar) -Craft feathers -1 sheet of stiff felt, cut into strips (roughly 3/4″ x 6″) -Small clips (optional) -Decorative ribbon (optional)* How to: Select the feathers you want to use and lay them out in a pleasing pattern. Open the headband into a circle and place it on the table, with the back side (the elastic) facing you. Take a strip of felt and place it on the inside of the band on what will be the front (the felt will become the “backing” that holds the feathers in place). Start gluing! Roughly estimate the middle of the headpiece and start there. Place a small drop of glue on the head band and stick the feather to it (it should be standing straight up, and the bottom of the feather shouldn’t stick out past the bottom). Place another small drop of glue on the other side of the feather and stick the felt backing to it. Repeat the same process until all feathers are glued. It can get a little messy, so wipe your hands as necessary! When all of your feathers are placed, glue the ends of the backing to the band and secure with clips. Add more fabric glue as necessary, filling gaps in the felt and backing (the more, the better!). Let it set overnight and enjoy a pow wow in the morning. *For the girls I added a shiny sequined ribbon to the front, securing with fabric glue.

recipe: light(er) creamy greek chicken

So the picture doesn’t do it justice… you’ll have to trust me on this… Delish! Backstory: I try to meet my hubby downtown once a week to eat lunch. We usually go to a little Greek restaurant called Athena. It’s buffet style (I know! All you can eat Greek food!?!), and they serve the yummiest, creamiest, most delicious chicken dish on Mondays… only Mondays! Imagine my dismay when I went back on a Tuesday, only to discover I was a day late! I couldn’t disguise my disappointment (brat) and the owner (who might be my favorite person on the planet) heard sensed my sob story sorrow. No sooner had I filled my plate with hummus and salad, did he arrive at my table with a steaming bowl of jasmine rice covered in cream sauce, tender chicken, fresh dill, sweet peas & tender carrots. Heaven! And now he insists on it every time I come in! This recipe pays homage to my favorite dish at my favorite Greek restaurant. The original is made with heavy cream and I’ve made it that way plenty of times, but most recently I substituted evaporated milk for the heavy cream and you really don’t notice a difference (but your waistline will! It saves you a ton of fat & calories!)… Light(er) Creamy Greek Chicken Ingredients 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (partially frozen then sliced super thin) 1 can evaporated milk (I actually used 1/2 can full fat and 1/2 can reduced fat) 1 tbsp fresh dill plus more to taste 3 – 4 garlic cloves (minced) Salt, pepper and red pepper flakes 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup frozen peas 1 tbsp butter (I used Light I Can’t Believe it’s not Butter) 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil optional- splash of lemon juice optional- carrots, sliced Directions Heat butter and oil in a cast iron skillet over medium heat until butter is melted and covers the entire pan. Add dill and garlic, stirring to spread. Add thinly sliced chicken. Cook until chicken is no longer pink, stirring to avoid burning. Add evaporated milk. Stir. Heat until milk bubbles, then reduce to simmer. Add salt, pepper and red pepper flakes to taste. Add frozen peas and allow to cook through. Add a splash of lemon juice and more dill to taste. Serve over jasmine rice, seasoned with a little butter, salt, pepper and dill. *TIP: It’s much easier to cut chicken when it is partially frozen, so if you buy fresh, stick it in the freezer 15 minutes before you cook. It will firm up and make thin-slicing so much simpler!
